Hit kunna äfven hänföras namn på måltider samt flere adverbiella
talesätt, t. ex. Dinner was announced, man anmälde, att middagen var
serverad. What will yon take for breakfast? Supper is över. (Däremot:
The dinner was rather poor, då själfva anrättningen afses.) To go to sea
(be at sea), gå till sjös, o. s. v., to go on shore, gå i land; to go to
town (live in town), resa till staden (i motsats mot landet) m. fl. Se
anglicismer.
2) vid några substantiv, som mer eller mindre närma
sig betydelsen af egennamn såsom:
Providence, försynen, Purgatory, skärselden,
Heaven (i bet. det andra Hell, helvetet,
lifvet, Gud), Fate, ödet,
Earth (i bet. jordelifvet), Nature, naturen.
Paradise, paradiset,
T. ex. May Heaven protect us! må himlen beskydda oss!
Do what you can, and leave the rest to fate! An artist cannot
study nature too minutely.
3) framför most (de flesta, största delen), vanligen äfven
framför last (nästliden) och next (instundande), t. ex. Most
persons, de flesta människor. Last night, i går afton. Next
morning. - Så äfven: I think it best to wait my time; he
entered first of all: samt vid den absoluta superlativen,
t. ex. True friendship shines brightest in the dark days of

4) framför substantiv, begagnade såsom titlar (med följande
personnamn), t. ex, Queen Victoria. King Charles.

Anm. 1. Däremot: The queen of England, the duke of Wellington,
the king of Prussia. (då titeln följes af ett egennamn i genitiv);
står likväl titeln såsom apposition efter personnamnet, begagnas
ej artikel, t. ex. (Charles the Fifth, emperor of Germany.
Victoria, queen of England.
Anm. 2. Vid följande titlar begagnas artikel (näml. då de föregå
personnamnet:
the emperor (the empress), the czar (the czarina), the archduke
(the archduches), the grundduke (the grandduchess), the elector,
kurfurste, (the electress), the princess, the duches. t. ex.
