Saw Mills, Skoghall.

paid to the Uddeholm woods has benefitted the forestry in the country in general, as,
at different times, the Company has undertaken extensive investigations respecting the
life, growth and re-growth of the most important Swedish forest trees, and with regard
to the employment of various machinery for the transport of timber from the woods,
etc., all of which has contributed effectively to increase our knowledge of the proper
way to be followed in the care and utilization of the Swedish forests. But although
the scientific attention paid to its forests, and the growth-qualities of the trees
enables the Company to obtain a considerable amount of timber of its own, still it has
been found advantageous to purchase a certain amount of round timber.

The agriculture existing on the Company’s estates is carried out in accordance
with the most modern methods. The small farms in the wooded districts are left to
the forest workmen to cultivate, and the Company has, by this means, acquired the
services of a body of workmen remaining regularly in its employ.
