■ Christiania.
pladsen foran Storthingsbygningen, og den saakaldte
Studenterlund, foran Universitetet.
Den største Del af Christiania forsynes med
rigeligt og godt Drikkevand fra det 3/.., Mil borteliggende
Maridalsvand (se Tegningen Nr. 22), der tildels
opsamles i det nylig paa St. Hanshougen opførte
storartede Vandbasin (se Tegningen *4), hvorfra Ledninger
til de forskjellige Bydele udgaar. Paa Grund af at
Maridalsvannet og det nævnte Vandbasin ligger ikke
ubetydeligt høiere end Byen, er Trykket i Ledningen
saa stærkt, at den benyttes til Slukning i
Ildebrandstilfælde. En Del af den ovenfor Slottet liggende Bydel,
„Homannsbyenog det omkringliggende "Distrikt
forsynes med Vand af en mindre Ledning fra Sognsvandet,
som ligger omtrent % Mil i Nord for Byen.
Byens kommunale Anliggender styres af Magistraten,
som bestaar af en Borgermester og to Raadmænd, samt
af Formandskabet og Repræsentantskabet, hvis
Medlemmer vælges af og blandt Byens stemmeberettigede
Borgere.
Ved Hjælp af Kartet over Byen, er det ikke
vanskeligt at finde sig til Rette i den og nærmeste
Omegn. Gadenavnene findes paa Hjørnehusene og hvert
Hus i samme Gade er betegnet med et fortløbende
over Portene eller Gadedørene anbragte Numere,
saaledes, at de med lige Tal (2, 4, 6 o. s. v.) betegnede
findes paa den ene Side og de med ulige (1, 3, 5 o. s. v.)
paa den anden Side af Gaden.
3. Til Udgangspunkt vil vi vælge Byens Torv (se
Tegning 3) paa hvilket Christian den fjerdes Statue,
ud-arbeidet af Billedhugger Jacobsen og støbt i Bronce
Christiania is abundantly supplied with excellent
water from the Maridalsvand (III. 22), distant about
three-quarters of a Norwegian mile from the city. The
altitude of the Maridalsvand being much greater than
that of the town itself, the pressure in the main is
very considerable, a circumstance turned to good
account in conflagrations. Part of Homansby and the
adjacent district are supplied with water from the
Sogns-vand, half a Norwegian mile to the north of the city.
The municipal affairs of the city are conducted
under the supervision of the magistracy, which is
composed of a mayor and two aldermen, and the members
of the town council, annually ellected by the burghesses.
With the assistance of a map it is not difficult, to
find one’s way about the town and its immediate
vicinity. The names of the streets are legibly painted on
the corner buildings, the number of each house being
affixed to the street-door or gate, the odd numbers on
one, and the even, on the other side of the street.
3. As a point of departure we will choose the central
market place (se III. Nr. 3) upon which the statue of
Christian the 4th is placed. This statue is the work
of Sculptor Jacobsen, in bronze erected to the memory
of the founder of the city of Christiania, by Christian
the 4th in 1624 and wis unweiled the 27th of September
1880. On this market place lies Vor Frelsers Kirlee
(the Church of Our Saviour) — se III. fl« — Kongens and
Kirkegade — will be seen branching off in a southerly
direction. The former terminates at the Ttankplads,
the latter extending past the Theatre, Grev Wedels Plads,
