The Chairman stated that when the
agreement was produced, Mr. Vernon Har
court should have an opportunity ot cross
examiuing upon it.
Mr. Vernon Harcourt was heard to
State that he required to know whother they
have given to our rivals the terms which
they have declined to us.
1934. What you have substantially olfered
to us is 10 years purchase, is it not, of our un
dertaking? — I cnn} I t.\ink, produce a copy of
our letter to you as 1 lave it here.
1935. You say: „For your property and
rights of all kiuds hrthe Norderney cable, in
respect of it, and of your concession from Prus
sia, and your agreement with the Electric and
International Company, a sum equal to 10 years’
purchase of your present net profits, plus what
ever an arbitrator shall award for your prospec
tive increase in profit during the period of your
agreement with the Electric and International
Telegraph Company.“ Let me ask you on what
grounds, when you have given to the other Te
legraph Companies 20 years’ purchase, do you
offer us 10 years’ purchase? — Upon theground
that 1 did not imagine that there was more ,t,’icn
10 years’ right in the property.
1936. That was your ground, was it? —
Yes, tlat was my ground.
1937. Let me call your attention to the
evidence which you gave on the 2nd of July,
when Mr. Hope Scott asked you, with.reference
to the agreements of the inland companies to
whom you had given 20 years’ purchase. He
asked you, at Question No. 232: „Were you
aware that they“ (that is the agreement), „would
expire at very short periods?44 and you said: „I
had reason to helieve that the London and
North-Western agreement would expire in seven
or eight years.“ Then Mr. Hope Scott asked
you: „NevertheIess you make your offer to the
companies of 20 years’ purchase upon the basis
of present net profits ?“ and you answered “Yes.“
Therefore you thought it right and proper to
give 20 years’ purchase for an agreement which
give Lem den. I alle Tilfælde vil jegpaatage mig
at skaffe den imorcen tidlig.

han forlangte at vide, om man havde ind

havde afslaaet os.

ikke saa? — Jeg kan, tcenker jeg, fremlægge en
Kopi af vort Brev til Lem, da jeg Tiar det her.
1935. Do siger: „For Deres Eiendom og
Rettigheder af alle Slags i Norderney-Kabelon,
den, Deres Koncessipn fra Preussen og Deres
Kontrakt med Electric and International Co. en
Sum lig lo Aars Kjøb af Deres nuværende Net
toindtægt, tillagt hvad en Voldgiftsmand maatte
bestemme som Godtgjørelse for Deres antagelige
Forøgelse af Indtægter i det Tidsrum, Deres
Kontrakt med Electric and International Co.
staar ved Magt.“ Lad mig spørge Dem, af hvilkc
Grunde De, naar De har givet de andre Tele
grafkompagnier 20 Aars Kjøb, tilbyder os 10
Aars Kjøb? — Af den Grund, at jeg ikke antog,
at der var mere end 10 Aars Ret i Eiendommen.
1936. Det var altsaa Deres Grund — ikke
saa? — Jo, det var min Grund.
1937. Lad mig henvende Deres Opmærk
somhed paa den Forklaring, som De afgav den
2den Juli, da Hr. Hope Scott spurgtø Dem, refe
rerende til Overenskomsterne med Landkompag
nierue, til hvem De havde givet 20 Aars Kjøb.
Han spurgteDcm ved Spørgsmaal No. 232: „Var
De vidende om, at de (nemlig Kontrakterne) vildc
udløbe efter meget korte Tidsrum?14 og De sagde:
„Jeg havde Grund til at tro, at London and
North Western Kontrakten vilde udløbe om syv
eller otte Aar.“ Da spurgte Ilr. Hope Scott
Dem: „Ikke destomindre gjør De Kompagnierne
Tilbud af 20 Aars Kjøb paa Basis af nuværende
Nettoindtægt?“ og De svarede „Ja.4‘ De ansaa
det altsaa for rigtigt og passende at give 2 0 Aars
Kjøb for en Overenskomst, som kun havde otte
) En KJebesum lig 10 Gange et bestemt Aars Nottoind-
tsegt af Forretningen.
