treatise: Delicie Nature, this genuine Linnean
painting of nature, so rich in fancy —Linneus
speaks of nature as consisting of three temple-courts,
that of Pan, Flora, and Pluto, who each holds sway
in his respective dominion.”

Linnzus was elected corresponding Member of the
French Royal Academy of Science, the 17th of
June, 1738, and chosen Associé de l’Académie des
Sciences, on the 8th December, 1762, succeeding
the great astronomer Bradley on his demise. This
nomination was.sanctioned by the King on the r1th
of December. Contemporaries, foreign Associés
with him, and others of the French Academy,
were Poleni in Padua, Morgagui in Italy, Bermsulli
in Basle, von Swieten in Vienna, von Haller in
Sweitz, Euler in Berlin, and Macclesfield in London.
To this, considered the greatest honour that can be
conferred upon any scientific man, Linnzus was the
first of the Swedish nation that had been elected.
