Schellenberg’s Story

principally the supposed symptoms of Parkinson’s
disease. Stumpfegger had not shared his opinion,
although he had to accept some of his points. In
the end they had agreed on certain medicines,
which he had prepared in his clinic; but
Stumpfegger had not called for them, having himself had
the intention of procuring medicines. There was
therefore a possibility that Stumpfegger had no
intention of getting the medicines in de Crinis’ clinic.
I reported this to Himmler, and he begged me
insistently to keep the whole business to myself.

During the days following my walk with
Himmler on April 13th events began to move
in the direction I had long anticipated. During the
first week in April I had got into touch with
Count Schwerin von Krosigk, who was then
Minister of Finance. In the course of long talks we
agreed that the war must be brought to an end
in order to save as much of Germany as possible.
In connection with these talks I arranged a
meeting for April 19th between Himmler and von
Krosigk. Relations between these two men had
been broken off for a long time.
