The reformed religion of Luther is the religion of the
State. They are very punétual in the performance of all
religious duties, and attend public worlhip withuncommon
ftri€inefs and afliduity. The Churches are kept open at
particular times, and a Clergyman conftantly in waiting to
adminifler the Sacrament to the fick, to give comfort to
the affli@ed or perform any of the other duties of his
funtion. The Clergy preach extempore and lead very
exemplary Lives. Their whole dependence and fupport
are in the hands of Government; of courfe they often a&
with too much Servility and pay too much Submiffion to
the court. They are held in high veneration by the com-
mon people, over whom they fometimes exercife toe

The Danes are very ftri@ in their Police, and a& with
great Severity againft allthofe who are guilty of frauds or
mifdemeanors.. Even the. tongue, that unruly, member,
muft be guarded with great care, for they will not {uffer_it
to be ufed licentioufly againft the State, orin any political
matter. Murder and Manflaughter are punifhed in
Denmark
