county of Durham, and is now in the polleflion of Lady
Liddell. It isabout the fizeof a Thrufh. This bird is
called the Sieben{chwantz, or Bohemian Chatterer, a fo-
litary bird, from whence it is conje€tured to have been
called the Micro-pheenix. Ithas a loag tail of blue, red
and yellow feathers which give it a very glowing appear-
ance. On almoft every feather of the wing there ts a
{mall red bright fpot, like a drop of red fealing wax.
This laft has been particularly obferved in a:bird of the
fame fize, though otherwife lefs gaily feathered, in the
fouthern parts of America. But it feems probable that
thefe birds are not of the fame kind, as this has a tuft upon
its head which does not anfwer the defcription of the
other, It is not, however, furprizing that birds, who are
well provided for long journeys, fhould be found in very
diftant countries, particularly as it feems within their
power to remove from one place to another according to
the temperature of different feafons, or for other reafons
not fo evident to men who are unable to judge of their
Inftinéts. .
From this country a large quantity of Aidder-down is col-
lefed
