Himmler: “As a matter of fact, we never even
thought of occupying either Sweden or
Switzerland, in spite of what your press alleges. Speaking
of your press, I can tell you I had decided that
no Norwegian students were to be sent to
Germany, but when I learned of the menacing tone
of the Swedish papers and their threats I at once
gave orders for the removal of the students to
Germany.”
Bernadotte: “The Swedish press showed itself
critical of the Allies, too—for instance, after the
Crimean conference, and again when certain
persons were placed on the black list.”
Himmler: “I can’t say I have noticed that. As
for the black list, I suppose I head it.”
I explained that the black list was not a roster of
war criminals, but concerned commercial
matters. Himmler laughed and said that in that case it
did not concern him.
