gjøre Norges plantegeographiske Forholde, samt
Træsamlingen, der indeholder et stort Antal Gjennemsnit
af især norske Træsorter, der vise Forskjellen mellem
Aarstilvexten paa forskjellige Voxesteder. Aaben hver
Mandag fra Kl. 12—2.
Den ethnografiske Samling. En saadan Samling af
kulturhistoriske Mindesmærker og Mærkværdigheder
var ikke paatænkt, da Universitetsbygningerne bleve
opførte; den har derfor fortiden et meget indskrænket,
uhensigtsmæssigt og mørkt Lokale, som dog i den
nærmeste Fremtid vil blive ombyttet med et større og
bekvemmere. Samlingen blev grundlagt i 1856, men
bestod i 1862 af kun 266 Nummere; senere er den især
ved Gaver af Søfolk og Reisende voxet saaledes, at
den nu tæller flere tusende Nummere. Gjenstandene
ere ordnede geografisk i flere Rum og 2 Gallerier i
Midtbygningens Mezzaninetage; Indgangen dertil er
fra Parkanlægget i Bygningens nordvestre Hjørne. Til
hver Verdensdel er paa Grund af Mangel paa Plads
kun indrømmet et Rum, det sjette er bestemt for den
rigeste Afdeling, den lappiske, hvortil ogsaa hører en
i Anlægget bag Musébygningen opført Sølapgaard,
bestaaende af Tørvgamme, Foraarshus og Hjeld.
Samlingerne, der ere aabne hver Mandag og Fredag fra
12—2, er nu for endel omordnet.
Bet physiske Kabinet, i Musébygningens 1ste
Hovedetage (indgangen til Venstre i Vestibulen) bestaar af
en større Samling ældre og nyere physiske Instrumenter.
Kan besees ved Henvendelse til Bestyreren.
Det physiologiske Institut og den physiologiske
Samling har Lokale paa venstre Side af Vestibulen, dels i
ornithological collection, and the collections of insects
and conches, is in the gallery, and also an extensive
collection of marine animals, preserved in spirits of
wine. "Want of space renders a systematic
arrangement impossible, and very large number of natural
objects cannot be exhibited. Open Sunday, Monday
and Friday 12—2.
Botanical Collection (left hand steps in vestibule).
The herbarium contains upwards of 40,000 plants,
comprising all that are found in Norway. The
collection in Practical Botany is considerable, consisting of
a large variety of objects from the Vegetable Kingdom
serving as articles of food, or for technical purposes,
and numerous species of plants and fruits calculated to
illustrate the flora of Norway. TheArborary Collection
contains numerous varieties of wood, chiefly Norwegian,
showing the growth in different localities. Open

Ethnographical Collection. — No such collection
was contemplated at the time the plans for the
University were drawn; and the room3 now occupied are
anything but suitable, being dark and comparatively
small; they will however soon be changed for larger
and more convenient apartments. The collection was
commenced in 1856, but consisted of only 266 objects
in 1862; since then however the increase has been
exeedingly rapid, thanks to donations from seamen and
travellers, and at present there are several thausend
objects. These are arranged geographically, in four
rooms and two galleries in the mezzanine story of the
centre edifice; the entrance is through the grounds at
