system, and we also should have a money-order
system; but it would be extended to a very much
greater number of offices than we have hitherto
been able to employ for that purpose.
117. Would there, thea, be any difficulty,
if you bad the whole control of the telegraphs,
to carry on your money-order system by means
of the telegraph at eyery place? — When the
public desired it, and they paid a corresponding
charge, there would be no difficulty.

178. Mr. Sargood. The Electric and In
ternational Company are the owners of two
cables, are they not, going from Lowestoft to
Holland? — They are.
179. Is there also an additional cable known
as the Reuter Telegraph Cable which is worked
by them? — Yes , it is practically leased from
Reuter’s Company and worked by the Electric and
International Company.
180. The’submarine cables between Calais
and Dieppe and this country belong to another
company? — The Submarine Telegraph Company
are possessed of cables between Dover and Calais,
Dover and Ostend, and Newhaven and Dieppe.
181. That is the whole of the present Con
tinental submarine system? — Yes, at present
existing.
182. Is it yourproposal under the working
of this Bill, if it becomes law, to acquire the
property in those cables as belonging to com
panies existing in the United Kingdom? — Our
proposal necessarily is to acquire the cables be
longing to the Electric and International Company
as a part of the undertaking of that company. If
we acquire the property of that company we also
derive from them their obligations, and tue shall
therefore be bound to Mr. Reuter in the terms of
their agreement with him. Further than that, if
we acquire the property of the British and Irish
Magnetic Company, we shall be bound to the Sub

pagni? — Submarine Telegraph Co. eier Kabler
mellem Dover og Calais, Dover og Ostende og
Newhaven og Dieppe.

tale submarine System? — Ja, hvad der for Nær
værende existerer.
182. Er det Deres Hensigt, i Medhold af
denne Bill, dersom den bliver Lov, at ex-hverve

Compagnier, der existere i det forenede Konge
rige? — Vor Hensigt er nødvendigvis at erhverve
de Kabler, der tilhøre Electric and International
Co., som en Del af dette Compacnies Forret
ning. Dersom vi erhverve dette Compagnies
Eiendom, maa vi ogsaa overtage deis Forpligtel
ser, og vi ville derfor blive forpligtede til at
opfylde Betingelserne i Compagniets Overens
komst med Hr. Reuter. Endvidere, dersom vi er
