The Shareholders have however been
greatly annoyed and alarmed by and in
consequence of statements made by par
ties connected with the Danish Newcastle
Cable Co. to the effect, that yon have
made, on behalf of the British Govern
ment, certain statements which at our
interview of the twenty third inst. yon
said were incorrect.
May I therefore request that yon
will kindly enable me to inform the
shareholders as to the true state of the
case.
Am I right in understanding, that
at our interview of the 23rd inst. you sta
ted, it was untrue, that you had pro
mised to give to the Newcastle Danish
Co. an exclusive right to all Messages
from England to places North of Flens
burg but that you had merely stated,
that as a matter of course you would
fulfil the contracts entered into by the
United Kingdom Telegraph Co. with the
Danish Cable Co., when the United King
dom Co.’s wires become the property of
the Government?
Am I right in understanding, that
you expressed yourself, that it was not
true, that the British Government inten
ded buying the Cable recently laid be
tween Newcastle and Denmark and the
Norwegian Peterhead Cable now upon the
point of being laid?
Will you also pardon me for asking,
whether it is true or not, that you had
specified, that the Norwegian Peterhead
Cable should be insulated with Hoopers
India Rubber like to and of the same
power as the Newcastle Danish Cable,
and that as our Cable is insulated with
Gutta Percha (like the Atlantic and most
of the other Telegraph Cables) it would
not be accepted by the Government?

har givet visse Tilsagn, som De ved vor
Sammenkomst den 23de dennes sagde
vare urigtige.
Tør jeg derfor udbede mig, at De
velvilligen vil sætte mig istand til at un
derrette Aktionærerne om Sagens virke
lige Stilling.
Har jeg Ret i den Opfatning, at De
i vor Sammenkomst den 23de dennes
erklærede, at det ikke var sandt, at De
havde lovet at give det Newcastle-Dan
ske Kompagni en exklusiv Ret lil alle
Telegrammer fra England til Steder nor
denfor Flensborg, men at De blot havde
sagt, at De som en Selvfølge vilde op
fylde de Kontrakter, som United Telegraph
Co. havde indgaaet med det Danske Ka
bel-Kompagni, naar United Kingdom
Co.’s Linier bleve Regjeringens Eien
dom ?
Har jeg Ret i den Opfatning, at De
udtalte Dem derhen, at det ikke var
sandt, at den britiske Regjering agtede
at kjøbe den Kabel, som nyligt er lagt
mellem Newcastle og Danmark og den
norske Peterhead Kabel, som nu er paa
Yeien til at lægges?
Yil De ogsaa tillade mig at spørge
om, hvorvidt det er sandt eller ikke, at
De havde forlangt, at den norske Peter
head Kabel skulde isoleres med Hoo
pers India-Rubber lige med og af samme
Kraft som den Newcastle-Danske Kabel
og at eftersom vor Kabel er isoleret med
Gutta Percha (ligesom den Atlantiske
og de fleste andre Telegrafkabler) vilde
den ikke blive antagen af Regjeringen.
Beklagende at jeg uleiliger Dem saa
meget og optager Deres kostbare Tid,
tegner jeg mig etc.
