them. They have been
playing for two hours. Yesterday
they had three games. Henry
won the first, John the second,
and the third was a draw.
Father was reading the
newspaper. He always reads
the paper after dinner. Last

Thomas Hardy, England’s greatest
living author.
My friend didn’t see me.
He was looking in a

Uncle Arthur is smoking his
cigar. He smokes three or
four cigars a day.
I was sitting on the sofa.
My cousin såt down beside me.
Do you skate? Yes, I do,
but I like skiing better. Every
winter when the snow and
frost come, I get my skis ready,
and go skiing for two hours
a day. Sometimes I go to
Fiskartorpet and watch the
ski-jumping. There is a fine
skating-rink near here. Mary
and I have been skating all
the morning.
To-morrow we are going for
a sleigh-drive. There will be
four or five sleighs. It will
be lovely to sit in the sleigh,
well wrapped up, and listen
