drapers, milliners, ironmongers,
outfitters, jewellers, not to
mention florists, tobacconists,
and stationers.
At the largest booksellers
you can buy any books that
are not out of print, for if
they haven’t got them in stock,
they will offer to get them for
you in a few days.
The two chemists’ shops,
»The Stork» and »The Lion»
are also in the High Street.
The theatre is not up to much.
It is situated in the outskirts
of the town, and looks more
like a barn than a home of
the Muses; but if the building
is unpretentious, the
performances are sometimes excellent
(first class, very good), as
several of our leading actors
and actresses play here, when
they are on tour.
We also have electric trams,
and there are always a lot of
taxis outside the station. From
the station it is only a few
minutes walk to the Grand
Hotel. During the winter a
string-band plays every
evening in the Café, and
concerts are frequently given in
the big hall upstairs.
A river runs through the
town. On the right bank there
is a public park with nice
